Today you are going off the beaten track with a detour to Haddon Corner. Continue to Birdsville and test your driving skills at the famous Big Red sand dune. - Day 3 - Birdsville - Simpson Desert Excursion
Immerse deeper into the world of sand dunes in the Simpson Desert while you follow the QAA line.
Spend the afternoon in Birdviller at your leisure. Go to the billabong right behind the caravan park to watch the birds, or visit the Blue Poles Gallery to admire the water colour paintings of the local artist Wolfgang John. - Day 4 - Birdsville to Innamincka
Depart Birdsville for a drive along Cordillo Downs Road to Innamincka. Enjoy the stunning desert landscapes, ruins and Australian history. Innamincka is a very remote town on the banks of Cooper Creek. It is closely connected with the explorers Burke & Wills and the history of the Australian Inland Mission. - Day 5 - Around Innamincka - Dig Tree - Burke's Grave
Explore the historic places that are related to Burke & Wills ill-fated tour across Australia.
The famous Dig Tree on the bank is a coolibah tree said to be about 200 years old. There is an information booth with interesting background info about Burke & Wills' expedition.
Enjoy the bird life on Cooper Creek with sunset drink later this day. - Day 6 - Innamincka to Tibooburra via Cameron Corner
Drive along the old Strzelecki Track past Merti Merti station to Cameron Corner. You have to cross a lot of sand dunes which shouldn't cause any major problems. This is a beautiful country, especially after rain when the dunes are covered with wildflowers.
Tree Australian states, Qld, SA, and NSW meet at Cameron Corner, and you are going to see the dingo fence as well.
After lunch at the corner store, you drive through Sturt National Park to Tibooburra. - Day 7 - Corner Country excursion
Explore historic Milparinka and Depot Glen in the morning. In 1845 Charles Sturt camped here near a waterhole for 6 months, unable to continue his expedition because of draught and extreme heat. Sturt's second command died here, and his grave and a memorial cairn can be seen close by.
Relax and enjoy some free time in Tibooburra this afternoon. - Day 8 - Tour finishs after breakfast in Tibooburra
Not included are fuel, drinks and repairs.
