depends on your car

There are two routes you could take to get from Longreach to Alice Springs, it depends on your car.

Route 1 from Longreach via Mount Isa, Tennant Creek and then down the Stuart Highway can be done in a conventional car.

Route 2 would be the shortest, from Longreach to Boulia, and then along the Donahue and Plenty Hwys to Alice Springs. Both roads are unsealed, so depending on the weather and road conditions, you would need a 4 WD vehicle, or at least a robust car with good ground clearance.

This is remote country. Be sure to read all articles in the Driving tips
and Outback safety sections, and be well prepared.
