Taronga (an Aboriginal word meaning beautiful view) Zoo was opened on 16th October 1916. The Zoo is located on 21 hectares on the northern shores of Sydney harbour at Bradleys Head Rd in Mosman.

  arrow Getting there - The quickest way to get to Taronga is by ferry from Circular Quay.

  arrow Opening hours - Daily from 9am to 5pm, Christmas Day included.

  arrow Entrance Fee - The regular admission fee is $ 41 for adults, $ 20 for children aged 4 to 15. Discounted prices are available for pensioners, students, families and groups.

Animals at Taronga Zoo Sydney

Taronga Zoo has about 340 animal species, and more than 2400 animals from Australia and around the world. The zoo works with conservation organisations world wide to carry out conservation programs for endangered species.

What to do at Taronga Zoo Sydney

You can walk around all day only to discover all animals. But there is much more to do and see.

  arrow Animal Encounters - Meet Koalas, Seals, Reptiles and Giraffes, get background information about feeding habits and their daily life at Taronga Zoo. Finally, have your photo taken with the animals.

  arrow Daily Presentations - Keeper talks give you detailed information about the animals. there are seal shows and bird flight shows.
Some of these shows are at additional costs.

  arrow Wild Australia Experience - This is truly an unique experience to learn about Australian zoo animals from experienced zoo keepers, and meet the critters face to face.

Feed a wallaby, explore the habitats of Australian animals in the bushlands, have your photo taken with a koala.

On this small group tour (max. 8 people) you visit parts of the zoo other visitors are usually not able to see. Visit the Australian nighthouse behind-the-scenes, see the kitchen where the animal food is prepared.

Duration of the Wild Australia Experience is two hours. Tours start at 10 am and 2 pm daily at Taronga Zoo. Booking is required at least 48 hours in advance.
Before and after the tour you have time to explore the zoo at your own leisure.
