Son travelling to Darwin

Hi there,

My son and his mate are heading up to Darwin from Adelaide. They are leaving this coming Tuesday morning. Our biggest issue is that we want them to stop over in Alice for the night but as my son is only 18 years old in Feb 2010 they are unable to get accommodation anywhere.
Do you have any suggestions as not even the caravan parks, hostels, any one will help us out.

I am afraid I can't offer much help here, instead I come with more questions to understand the problem.
You are saying your son can't get accommodation because he hasn't come of age yet? Can't you book the accommodation for them?
I can't imagine that it is so difficult for a nearly 18 years old young man to stay somewhere on his own. However, I don't know much about the law in this case, sorry.

We tried booking it for him but alas to no avail. After close to 15 phone calls we finally found a lovely gentleman at the Desert Motor Inn that was only too happy to help us in our dilemma.
Just for your information, my son is now safely in Alice after a hard first stretch of driving and is sound asleep at the Desert Motor Inn.
So perhaps it is a lesson for all to make sure that you check your accommodation if it involves under 18's.
Are they encouraging kids to sleep in the middle of nowhere? No wonder people go missing...

Hi Rebecca,

Thanks for the update. Good to hear that you found a place to stay for your son in Alice Springs.

That's really hard to understand that it's a problem to find accommodation for a nearly 18 year old kid. I mean they are allowed to drive in most states at 17, but they can't sleep alone somewhere? Phew.
