New Years Eve SydneyFireworks are usually launched from the harbour bridge, vessels on the harbour, and several buildings in the city. Known as the "bridge effect", a thematic display is revealed on the harbour bridge during the midnight fireworks. In the Millenium night it was the word eternity in honour of Arthur Stace. How to spend New Years Eve in SydneyWithout doubt, the best place to welcome the New Year in Sydney is somewhere on, or along the harbour. Major events include the family fireworks at 9 pm, the Harbour of Light Parade, and finally the big count down and the main fireworks at midnight. New Years Eve celebration usually start in the afternoon, and there are parties everywhere in Sydney.Around 1.5 million people are expected to gather at top spots around the harbour to see the fireworks and have fun. Additionally, thousands of vessels are launched to welcome the New Year on the harbour. Please note: There will be an exclusion zone for boats, marked by lit yellow buoys, from 8 pm on New Years Eve to about 12:30 am on New Years Day. The exclusion zone extends from Cockatoo Island to Clark Island, and no unauthorised boats are allowed within the zone at this time. So instead of hiring a boat to be part of the celebrations on Sydney Harbour, you are much better off to join a tour on one of the 55 vessels that are part of the Harbour of Light Parade. These ships are allowed to cruise within the excluson zone, and bring you very close to the fireworks, and provide you with the best views. Sydney Harbour New Year's Eve Cocktail Cruise Get on board the Bella Vista, a three-level glass vessel, and cruise all night within the exclusion zone.
