lpg availbility generally

Petrol Station Australia

Petrol Station Australia

I am in the process of purchasing a 4x4, which will be our second vehicle as well as our round aussi conveyance, and have found lpg to be excellent and economical, but am also considering a diesel but would be willing to carry drum petrol for a duel fuel vehicle.

Is there a common site you have found which gives towns where lpg will be available so a trip can be planned?

I ask this as probably 90 percent of the vehicles use will be in lpg available areas, but it is the balance I am concerned with.

Incidentally am looking forward to the Gunbarrel as i have worked in remote areas and have met len Beadell at his home also at Maralinga many years ago.

Kind regards
roy

Hard Question
by: Rita

Hi Roy,

phew, that's a question I won't have much advice, sorry. I found this LPG Outlet Locator, and hope it helps.

I checked fuel availability for the Gunbarrel Highway a while ago, so you get unleaded fuel and diesel, but I am not sure if the roadhouses have LPG.

LPG
by: Anonymous

We did the Great Central Road 2 years ago & there was no LPG to get, if I remember right.

So I would really if the even more adventurous Gunbarrel Highway would have some. But I could imagine, that at the starting points Calgoorlie & Coolgardie you should get some.

I would recommend to buy a Diesel, as in some areas you might have problems to get petrol, as it's illegal. Some kids sniff it too much.

Have fun!

Thank you

Hi Melvin,

Thanks for your tips.
I am sure Diesel is what you get everywhere in the Australian Outback. But if you look at the price difference, LPG is worth to consider.

Diesel - LPG
by: Anonymous

Yes you are right. I would take both. I'm not sure if it's possible, but wouldn't know why it's not.

Diesel is more expensive than petrol, but it also uses less fuel and is more reliable. A good Diesel engine should run twice as long. We've seen 4x4 Diesels with 400.000 & even more km on it with still the first engine. Crazy!

If you then add lpg... cool. But it should be done by a mechanic who is specialised in it. I know that it can also ruin your whole engine in short time, if it's not done properly.

Greetings
