Marree's Outback Roadhouse

Hi,
I'm travelling through that area on the weekend and staying Saturday night at Lyndhurst and have Sunday free before heading down south.

My better half wants to view Lake Eyre and as we'll only have a day up our sleeve I'm thinking of driving to Level post bay. How long would you expect it to take on the 4wd track from Marree given that it's 100k. Do you know what the track condition is at present.

Level Post Bay conditions

Hi Bob,

It is great to get the chance to travel to Marree and Lake Eyre.
However, I am afraid this will disappoint you, and your better half.
You won't see water at Level Post Bay. From the shores, you'll only see water at Halligan Bay, off from William Creek.
Most people who've been to Lake Eyre recently say, that the best way to see water, and bird life, is from the air.
The Lake Eyre Yacht Club updates conditions frequently, check it out here.

I've heard that Marree and William Creek are operating at their limits. It is hard to get accommodation, and you'll better stock lots of supplies like food, water and fuel.
Unfortunately, flights are also heavily booked, but you might be lucky, and someone who booked a flight doesn't show up.

The Level Post Bay Track is open. I really can't say how long it will take you for the 100 km.
Both tracks to Lake Eyre are heavily used these days and might be rather corrugated. Apart from that, conditions on tracks can change quickly.

I would suggest you contact the roadhouse in Marree (Ph: 8675 8360) for track conditions and info about the best way to see water in Lake Eyre.

Good luck, and have a safe trip.

Rita
