Gawler Ranges National Park Area

I am hoping to check out the Gawler Ranges NP / Lake Gairdner/ Lake Everard within the next month, I have a high clearance 4wd & off-road camper trailer & was wondering whether the area is suitable for trailers as I've been unable find this out on the sites I have seen so far.

Thanks,
Varena & Geoff O'Regan

Gawler Ranges road conditions
by: Rita

Hi Varena & Geoff,

There's no "yes or no" answer to your question. As usual, it depends on the road conditions on the day(s) you go, and how experienced you are towing your trailer in rough conditions.

The Hiltaba-Iron Knob Rd outside the NP passes Mount Ive station, it is one of the main roads in the area. Within the Gawler Ranges National Park the Minnipa-Yardea Rd and the Old Paney Scenic Route are considered 2WD tracks and shouldn't cause any problems for towing a trailer in dry conditions.

Other tracks within the park are considered 4WD tracks. The Conical Hill track is really steep and rough in places, although we managed it without engaging the 4WD. It is the clearance that counts.
When the conditions are rough you could always leave your trailer on a campground in the park to explore a certain highlight.

Check road conditions before you go.

Have a great trip.

off road campers!
by: colin

the roads up there are pretty good for towing!
as in a bush towing watch the weather as rita said!
to see the country better make a base camp and do day trips!! safer than towing through some wild country up there!
enjoy it, its amazing area!!
