First time in the outback

Snake on an Outback road

I have never been to Australia before but that is to change. Next summer I and my family will visit you.

I have a couple of questions basically because I am only used to bigger predators (bears, etc. and not snakes etc.)

Are there special habits/rules that will be useful when you are?
Camping in the outback? Parking in the outback

Best regards,

Response to first time in the outback

Hi Palle,

It is great that you are going to visit Australia and the Australian Outback, you will like it.

Phew, if you are used to bears, you shouldn't worry about Australian snakes. I know I would be scared to encounter a bear!

I would say the rules with snakes are much the same as with all wild animals. Know a little about their habits, use common sense, and don't try to be a hero and play stupid games with them.
Snakes are not only in the Outback, they can be found all over Australia. But you won't see them very often. Snakes are usually shy and move away.

I have covered some facts about snakes and rules what you should do / shouldn't do on my Australian snakes page.

I wish you happy planning for your trip. If you have more questions, don't hesitate to ask. It is a pleasure to help.

Rita
