Driving Melbourne to Uluruby Ashling
Can I do it on a budget and deadline? Hi, I will be travelling from Melbourne to Adelaide in a motor van. I then plan on driving up to Uluru and back to Melbourne. I have never drove big distances so I'm quite worried about the trip and I'm not to sure how motor vans work in terms of where I can pull in at night time. Is there places that are free to stop off for the night along the way to Uluru? I want to do this in about 15-16 days. Is this possible? Would really love any help on this... ashling. Response to Driving Melbourne to Uluruby: RitaHi Ashling, It is a long trip, roughly 4600 kms, so 15-16 days might be a bit short, especially if you want to stay in some places for a day or two. That means long days of driving on the other days. There are rest areas along the highways, some are only for trucks, and most don't have toilets or other facilities. Here's a map with the rest areas in South Australia On the Stuart Highway page you'll also find a list with all roadhouses which have caravan parks. It is usually not that expensive (except Uluru) if you take an unpowered site. Camps Australia Wide is a guide book that shows free camps, rest areas and low cost caravan parks around Australia. You really don't need to worry. Make an itinerary that will give you an idea if you can make it in your available time. Perhaps you can add a day or two. Have a safe trip. Rita Need a map?
