Driving in wet season

Darwin Northern Territory

Darwin Northern Territory

Hello,
we are planing to drive from Adelaide up to Darwin in March. Do you think there will be any problems driving in the wet seasons without a 4WD?
Thank you!

The wet is north

Well, I cannot promise there won't any problems anywhere on this long journey along the Stuart Highway.
The weather has been very crazy in Australia this year, with lots of flooding, especially in the eastern states.

As for a 4WD, you won't need it on the Stuart Hwy, the road is completely sealed from Adelaide to Darwin, as is the road to Uluru if you plan to go there as well. However, if there is a heavy downpour, even a bitumen road can be closed for a day.

Check the Australian climate page to see that only Australia's tropical north has a dry and a wet season.

Central Australia has desert climate with not much rain, usually. But it has even rained in Alice Springs and at Ayers Rock more than usual this year.

Rest assured, most likely you'll be okay. Have a great trip.

Rita
