Thargomindah bore

Hi,
I have stumbled upon your web site while looking for info to help plan a trip. It is very informative.
My wife and I are planning to take our Prado to Uluru in early January. We know it will be hot, but that doesn't worry us, we have been in 45+ heat in NSW & SA before.
We are however considering going through Mt Isa to the 3 ways on the trip there but taking the Oodnadatta track on the way home and going
via Cameron Corner, Thargomindah on the way home. I have been from Marree - Thargomindah via Cameron Corner before, but that was in July.
We have no experience of the Oodnadatta track or what to expect from Marree to Thargo in January.
I'd appreciate any info that you or your readers can provide.
Thanks,
Damian

Hard to say

Hi Damian,

I have never been to the Outback in summer. The closest time to summer I travelled the Oodnadatta Track was in November. Road conditions were good, and it was not too hot.
So you don't mind the heat, that is good. But it is hard to predict what road conditions are like, dry, dusty, sandy, even rain? You know the weather is strange these days.

The only advice I can give you is to check road conditions and the weather reports before you go on any track.
Realise that there won't be much traffic, so you should be independent, carry an adequate amount of water, tools, spares etc. Any device to get in touch with the world would be also good (sat phone, UHF radio).
How do you get from Marree to Cameron Corner? Along the Strzelecki Track? This would be the shortest route.

Perhaps another reader travelled this area in summer and can give you more advice.
BTW, if you are looking for Uluru Tours, this page might be of interest.

Hi Damien,

We are thinking of heading out to Uluru this December. With the benefit of hindsight, would you recommend it?

Too early to tell

We haven't gone yet. The trip is for this coming January. Perhaps you can tell me.
I have however spoken to a few people who seem to think that if you don't mind it hot it should be fine
