I am sorry the Bush Telegraph is a bit late this month. It has been a busy time since the last edition.

Today I'll take you to the long journey along the Stuart Highway, right into Australia's red centre.

Some people say the long drive is boring. Well, perhaps it is, especially if you just rush from A to B. Take your time to visit the highlights along the way, do a detour on a dirt track occasionally, and you'll have an exciting journey.

Watch out for animals, stop frequently at rest areas just to absorb the nature. Enjoy the stunning Australian Outback.

* New pages on Rita's Outback Guide. *
  • Stuart Highway - The Explorers Way from Adelaide to Darwin is one of the legendary long distance drives. I have covered the details, highlights and detours from Adelaide to Alice Springs, including the trip to see Australia's most stunning rock, Uluru.
It is a journey right into Australia's red heart.
Don't miss our reader's questions and comments about the Stuart Highway in the section below. Very interesting!

  • Cattle Drive Vacation - The Great Australian Outback Cattle Drive is a beautiful tour in the South Australian Outback. Join famous drovers when they move cattle like they did in the old days. The Australian Cattle drive has been a success story since its introduction in 2002.
Watch a short video, and let you inspire by the pictures and colours of the Outback.
Only two new pages this month? Yes, indeed. However, I am happy that there have been many questions by our readers, which I answered in detail.

* Outback Guide Reader's contributions *

Receiving readers questions and comments is a lot of fun, and it tells me what you guys want to know about the Australian Outback. After all, I am writing this guide for you. So come on, let the questions, comments and stories roll in. :)
If you have more tips to add to the existing topics, don't be shy! Hit the comment button and give your advice. We all appreciate your input.
  • Epic trip to Uluru - Jeannie from Sydney asked a few questions to prepare her family trip to Uluru and the red centre. She wanted to make the journey interesting and varied for the kids.
Don't miss her follow-up to ask about bush flies in the Australian Outback. Interesting read, and it is not only about flies.

  • Yunta - Cameron Corner - Broken Hill - Someone from Balaklava in South Australia planned to do this wonderful trip. It leads to the Flinders Ranges, further north into Outback South Australia, and across the border into New South Wales. A part of this tour is on my agenda as well.
Just this morning arrived the comment that he enjoyed the trip very much, despite the bad road conditions in some parts.

  • Townsville to Alice Springs - This is another long distance drive into the red centre, this time coming from the north and sunny Queensland.

  • First time in the Outback - Palle from a northern European country, tells that he is used to bears at home. However, he worries about Australian snakes, and wanted advice on how to do the right thing. If he keeps to my tips on the Australian snakes page, he'll be fine.

  • Hunting in Outback Queensland - Now with Adrian's request I was at a loss, I couldn't give a satisfying answer. However, I often see readers arrive at this page searching for hunting information. Perhaps someone can give a better comment than I?

The next three submissions are once more related to Lake Eyre. I've got the feeling that nearly everyone in Australia is on the move to the lake.

A big thank you for everyone who contributed.

See, it is so easy to get mentioned in the Bush Telegraph. We all would love to hear your tips and stories.

Check out the Australian Outback Stories page for more information how it works. You'll also find invitations and links to submit your stories on many pages of the Outback Guide.

Of course, you can add a comment to any contribution. Let's make the Outback Guide a forum for Outback travellers. :)

*Outback Events*

7th, 8th & 9th August 2009 - Mount Isa Rodeo - Australia's most famous rodeo, actually, it is the largest rodeo event in the southern hemisphere.
Enjoy three days non-stop rodeo action, ute muster, live-music, and good food. If you are in the region, have fun at the Isa rodeo.
