News from the Australian OutbackG'day, First of all, thank you for subscribing to my newsletter, and welcome to all new subscribers. The Bush Telegraph is the newsletter of Rita's Australian Outback Guide. Don't miss
This newsletter is a bit late, because I've been away with my Australian mates to show them around Switzerland and give them the chance to put their feet on snow for the first time. What a great time we had! * News from Australia and the Outback *Dust storm in Sydney and along the east coastOnce again, the weather played havoc in Australia. Between 22. and 24. September a major dust storm swept across New South Wales and parts of Queensland. The storm originated in the corner country of south-western NSW and north-eastern South Australia. Broken Hill was the first city to be blacked out, Canberra, Sydney and Brisbane followed. The storm carried thousand of tons of dust and soil from central Australia into eastern cities, and finally dumped the dirt into Sydney harbour and the ocean. One couldn't see the opera house from the harbour bridge! Its strange to experience red dust and Outback conditions in Sydney, isn't it? Bushfires in AustraliaMeanwhile the bush fire season has begun. Fire brigades on the coast in Queensland and New South Wales have been fighting major fires for a couple of days last week.Bushfires in Australia occur every year, they are part of the nature in Australia. Hopefully, this summer won't bring a disaster like the Victorian bushfires earlier this year. World Solar Car RaceToday, October 25th, the World Solar Car race across Australia started in Darwin. 32 solar cars left Darwin for a 3000 km journey along the Stuart Highway to Adelaide. The cars drive 9 hours per, and the fastest vehicle is expected to arrive in Adelaide on Wednesday night or Thursday this week.Ghan train derails after hitting a cowSunday the 18th passengers on the Ghan train experienced a "special" adventure! The train was on its run between Darwin and Adelaide when it hit a cow on the track. The locomotive ran off the tracks, but thankfully, none of the passengers were hurt. The train continued on Monday, after a new locomotive was brought in.* New pages and reader's submissions in the Outback Guide *I really enjoy reader's submissions, it is fun to answer them.
