Now spring has finally come to Germany. It is great to sit here with the windows wide open and telling you the latest news from the Australian Outback.

I've been working hard on the Outback Guide, nothing new, lol. I have so many things in mind that I want to add to the guide, this will keep me busy for the next 100 years. If only the day had 48 hours!

I hope you enjoyed the new Queensland pages from the last newsletter. This section is far away from complete, so please bear with me.

* Outback Guide News *

Returning visitors might notice that I cleaned up the nav bar on the Outback guide. No worries, none of the pages disappeared. Please refer to the table of content to find the stuff you are looking for.

Outback South Australia - an introduction to the state I probably know best by now. At least when it comes to Outback related states. I've travelled a lot in Victoria, too.

Queensland Travel Tips - Where to stay and eat while you're travelling in Outback Queensland. Isn't it always great to know where to get the next cold beer on a hot day?

Unique Australian Animals - Finally, there are some pages about Australia's animals. I just love the Aussie nature, and everything that's creeping and crawling out there. Umm, at least most creatures!

Dangerous Australian Animals - now the most dangerous creatures live along the tropical coasts - crocs, box jelly fish etc.

Dangerous Australian Wildlife - spiders, scorpions, and Australian snakes. I don't think you need to panic, just know about the nasties that could cross your path, and know how to avoid getting in trouble.

Native Australian Animals - the well-known cuties, as I call them. Although Kangaroos and Koalas can also hurt you if they feel threatened. Treat all wild animals with respect, and you'll be fine.

Koala pictures - Enjoy these beautiful photos of koalas. Unfortunately, I don't have many good animals photos. So most animal photos come from AllPosters. They have a wide range of great pics, and you can purchase framed or unframed posters.

So this is one of the rare pics I've taken myself. I found this koala sitting in a tree in a suburb in the Adelaide Hills.

* Outback story *

You probably want to know about some of my personal encounters with Australian animals. No big issues here, but I want to share it anyway.

The only time I came very close to a snake was while I was walking along the Eyre Highway close to the Nullarbor roadhouse. The snake really used camouflage, so I nearly stepped on it. I've got no idea what kind of snake it was, though I thought I'd better be careful. See the photo on the Australian snakes page.

On another occasion I was very close to a kangaroo. Bugger! I didn't have the faintest chance to take a photo as I was using the "bush toilet" when the roo decided to pass by looking what I was doing!

* Coming Outback events *

Outback events are an enjoyable occasion for Outback folks. People travel 100 km ore more to join a race, a rodeo, or a B&S ball in the next town. Why do not join while you are out there?

Saturday, 3rd to Sunday - 5th May 2008 Longreach Outback Muster and Drover's Reunion - at the Stockmans Hall of Fame in Longreach.

Saturday 31rd May 2008 - Hawker Cup - The Hawker Cup is a major highlight in the central Flinders Ranges, attracting a large crowd from all over the state as well as those just passing through. So for any race-goer who has not experienced the friendly atmosphere of country racing, then the Hawker Races in May is the place to be.

Saturday 17th May 2008 - 18th Oodnandatta Races & Gymkhana - a weekend full of fun for the entire family, with the 1600m Oodnadatta Cup being the highlight.

I hope you enjoyed the message from the Outback. This edition introduced you to Australia's unique wildlife. Seeing native animals is always a highlight of my trips.

Until next time.

See ya, Rita
