Lake Eyre and the presence of water in this vast (usually dry) salt lake still causes excitement in the Australian Outback. The last issue of this newsletter was devoted to this exciting event. Today I am going to introduce you to another stunning region in the South Australian Outback - The Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary in the northern Flinders Ranges. In November 2008 I visited Arkaroola. It is a beautiful spot to stay for a couple of days. The landscape is wild and untouched, although there has been mining activity in the region for the past 150 years. Thanks to the Sprigg family, who have owned Arkaroola since 1967, conservation of the environment has been a major concern. Their hard work re-established original flora and fauna. Unfortunately, although Arkaroola has won quite a few awards for eco-tourism and protecting the environment, parts of this beautiful area is threatened to be spoilt by uranium mining. The old copper town of Blinman is worth a visit while you're exploring the Flinders. Now we come to a quite different region in Australia. * Outback Guide Reader's contributions * I am really happy that my Outback Guide readers are using the new feature to submit their stories, reviews and questions to be published on the website. Some submissions also got a few comments with more advice from other readers.Of course, Lake Eyre was again the centre of attention.
So if you want to be mentioned with your contribution in the newsletter next month, ask your questions, tell your stories and share your photos. Check out the Australian Outback Stories page for more information how it works. You'll also find invitations and links to submit your stories on many pages of the Outback Guide. Of course, you can add a comment to any contribution. Let's make the Outback Guide a forum for Outback travellers. :) *Outback Events*
