New Year Edition of the Bush Telegraph. How have your holidays been? Now I wish you all a happy, healthy & prosperous year 2008. May all your dreams come true.
It has been quite cold in Germany, and we even had a white Christmas, sort of. No piles of snow, just a thin white cover. Not that I am dreaming of a white Christmas, or snow at all, far from it. I am looking forward to spring, and another Outback trip, that's what my dreams are made of.
* So what's new on the Outback Guide? *
This is an overview about new pages on the Outback Guide since the last newsletter.
Australian camels - the ships of the desert have always been fascinating for me. Several 100,000 camels roam the Australian inland. Are you looking for adventure? Take a camel tour, and feel like the early explorers.
Prepare your car for an Outback trip. To have a reliable car when you go outback is essential. The further you go to remote areas, the better your car should be equipped.
Health advice for travellers - it is good to have some general knowledge what to do to stay healthy on your outback travel. I am going to add more to this chapter in the future.
The Outback Guide secret - is the story of how I started the Outback guide. It is so exciting, and SBI offers all the help I need to make the Outback guide a success. I am sure you all have, like me, a passion. Why not turn your
passion and knowledge into a small bussiness?
* Coming Outback events *
Outback events are an enjoyable occasion for Outback folks. People travel 100 km ore more to join a race, a rodeo, or a B&S ball in the next town. Why do not join while you are out there?
10 Jan- 13 Jan 2008 - The Arkaroola's Star Party Down Under is an annual astronomical event. If you have ever looked up at the stars and wondered why, then a star party is an excellent place to learn some of the answers. And I know that the Outback sky is just marvellous, so this is an event not to be missed.
26 January 2008 - Australia Day celebrations will be held all over Australia.
21 Mar - 23 Mar 2008 - The Coober Pedy Opal Festival is the official start to the tourism season in the Outback of South Australia. The Opal Capital of the worlds invites travellers to an unique Outback invent.
* Outback News *
Now this little story is not breaking news, but I thought it was funny to include it here.
The famous Birdsville races run since 1882 every year on the first weekend in September. The races 2007 truly were a historic event - races without horses! Due to a government ban on movement of horses to prevent the spread of equine influenza there was a severe lack of horses in Birdsville.
However, the great Aussie spirit is a tough cookie. The social activities around the races were not cancelled. This made the 2007 event Australia's most unique outback racing carnival.
Until next month.
See ya, Rita
